FAQ's

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a revolutionary new method for reducing fat in common problem areas, including back, flanks (love handles), abdominal fat and now arms and legs. It uses a controlled cooling technology that targets and destroys layers of fat cells in the body, thus reducing unsightly bulges.

How does it work?

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive, painless and simple procedure. We place a gel pad and a specialized applicator to deliver cooling to the fat cells in the targeted area. This process, called cryolipolysis, chills fat cells and stimulates the natural removal of these cells. The fat is then metabolized by your own body. After a number of weeks, the areas which have been frozen start to reduce as the fat is lost.

How long does it take?

Each CoolSculpting treatment can last anywhere from one to several hours, depending on how many areas you would like to treat. We will inform you during the consultation how many hours you will require. If you require more than two hours, these sessions can be broken up over several days or can be scheduled all together in one sitting.

Is it painful?

CoolSculpting is a gentle and entirely non-invasive procedure. It does not require any anesthesia or pain medication. Most patients experience no pain to minimal discomfort during this procedure. While having the procedure you can enjoy a movie of your choice, talk on the phone, watch television, read a book, listen to music or simply take a nap. While everything necessary will be provided, you are welcome to bring any additional comforts of home such as movies, music, pillows or reading material.

Will I be comfortable?

We make the best effort to give patients the most comfortable experience. We provide you with amenities such as pillows, an array of tea options, and your choice of coffee or cappuccino.

Is it safe?

The CoolSculpting procedure is performed under the supervision of Dr. Jaliman in her medical office. The technology enables precise, controlled delivery of the cooling that affects only fat cells on your body, ensuring that no surrounding tissue or cells are affected or damaged. Additionally, because CoolSculpting is non-invasive, there is no risk of infection, complications from anesthesia, or other side effects associated with surgery.

How long does it take to recover?

There is no recovery time required following a CoolSculpting treatment. Patients may resume their daily activities immediately following the procedure. You can even exercise right after the procedure. Mild redness in the treated area can last several minutes up to two weeks. Some people may bruise, which can last from two days up to two weeks. A small percentage of people may experience tingling, tenderness, cramping, itching or soreness. You may feel a temporary dulling sensation in the treated area for up to eight weeks. Patients vary in side effects and while many experience no reaction, others may experience mild side effects. Sun exposure is not contra-indicated with CoolSculpting so patients may resume outside activities after the procedure. Of course, we recommend the use of sunscreen at all times.

Is Coolsculpting right for me?

Coolsculpting is designed for individuals who are healthy and fit, but who want to eliminate fat in areas of their body that have not responded well to diet or exercise. It is not a substitute for weight loss or liposuction, nor does it address problems with obesity.

How soon will I see results?

Though it can vary and some patients can see them sooner, in most cases results are visible within 2 to 4 months following CoolSculpting.

If I need another treatment, how soon after can I have it done?

Patients can wait the full 4 months before having another session. However, we find those who re-treat at the 4-6 week mark are happier because they can see a stronger, cumulative result of the sessions.

How long do the effects last?

The effects of the treatment are permanent. Fat cells do not reproduce or expand in size. Once CoolSculpting eliminates fat cells from your body, they will not reappear if healthy exercise and lifestyle are maintained.

Can I undergo more than one treatment?

After assessing the effects of your first treatment, speak to Dr. Jaliman about whether you could benefit from additional treatments. For more results, some patients opt for multiple follow-up treatments over the course of a year.

What happens to the skin after CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting does not positively or negatively affect skin laxity. If you have lost a significant amount of fat in one area you may be a candidate for skin tightening procedures, such as Thermage CPT radiofrequency. These non-invasive procedures can work in tandem to help you achieve optimal results.

Can you have Coolsculpting following surgical procedures like liposuction or a tummy tuck?

Usually you may have Coolsculpting following these types of procedures, although this is decided after a careful assessment of the patient.

How soon after giving birth can I have Coolsculpting?

Though it can vary from person to person, after speaking to many gynecologists we have determined that the ideal time to have CoolSculpting is about 8 weeks after delivery.

Where does the fat go?

The fat is metabolized gradually and painlessly eliminated in the urine.

How much weight will I lose after Coolsculpting?

CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss procedure. Though you may see changes reflected on the
scale, it is intended for fat reduction in problem areas.
